Volume 3, No 5

With summer right around the corner, Seaside has prepared well for the arrival of warm-weather guests who are ready for fun…ready to break away from their routines, shed their shoes, and head for the beach!

Some come for just the beach, and others come to take advantage of the many things to do here. All across the Grand Strand, festivals and events are springing up. Music, entertainment, food, and crafts are only a part of our beach community. Locals and visitors alike find special treats among local farmers' markets, vineyards, bakeries, meat-markets, and off-the-boat seafood sales that feature fresh local products - perfect for any beach party. Some families enjoy picking strawberries from local fields, catching fish from the surf, finding the perfect wine from one of our local vineyards, or doing any of the many other exciting activities available here.

By the end of the summer, North Myrtle Beach anticipates the inauguration of the Main Street Connector that will move traffic more easily from Seaside in North Myrtle Beach to Highways 31 and 22. This road will mean an easier drive across the Intracoastal Waterway to all the exciting venues to the south and west, such as the brand new Freestyle Music Theme Park on Highway 501 (site of the former Hard Rock Park), due to open Memorial Day weekend. Keep an eye on our calendar for other exciting events, such as activities at Market Common, Little River, Pawleys Island, and throughout the Strand.

Life grows more exciting and more fun, day by day here at the beach. We look forward to your joining us this summer!

News and Happenings at Seaside

Seaside and the Relay for Life

The Relay team of volunteers representing Seaside enjoyed a wonderful evening on April 24th for the fund-raising event held at The Ripken Experience over a twelve hour period. Team Myrtle Beach Seaside Resorts as a whole raised over $9,000 in all, a culmination of bake sales, donations, chicken bog sales, and much more that generated funds to be donated to The American Cancer Society in efforts to bring awareness to the disease and finding a cure.

More of our volunteer efforts are on-going, from raffles to book sales, and on. Donations illustrated by the "purple feet" symbol continue to come in, too.

Additionally, the company is preparing for its August 1st golf tournament called the First Annual "Swing Fore the Cure" Golf Tournament at Myrtle Beach National's Kings North Golf Course. We anticipate that this event will draw much interest by the many golfers out there! This exciting event should be lots of fun, beginning with its 9 am "shotgun" start, then the awards luncheon, free beverages, lunch, and plenty of prizes, not only for top placement, but also for last place, closest to the pin, longest drives, and so much more. If you are interested in participating in the golf tournament and bidding in the silent auction, please click on the tournament's website link at www.MBSRAnnualGolfTournament.com. This website offers information of the prizes, how to bid in the auction, and how to obtain more information about the entire event. In the meantime, further updates are available through Brenna (843.251.3519) or Jenna (843.655.1409) through the resort. Costs range from $75/individual to $260/foursome team, and hole sponsorships are $100 each. An added feature is a "bonus package" of entry tickets for prizes (2 mulligans plus 5 raffle tickets) at $20/individual and $80/foursome. We hope to see you out there on the course!

During the awards ceremony, we will announce the winners of the silent auction, held in conjunction with the golf tournament. Wonderful prizes donated by the following generous companies from around the Grand Strand will be auctioned to the highest bidders, with all proceeds going to the total contribution for The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The following companies have contributed fabulous prizes toward the silent auction:

  • T-Bonz
  • Family Kingdom
  • Ripley's Aquarium
  • Tanger Outlets
  • Tri-County Mechanical Inc.
  • Enchanted Sailing Charters
  • Wal-Mart
  • SeaBoard Signs
  • Target Media
  • Legends in Concert
Thank you to one and all for the generous and important donations of prizes on behalf of this cause. Every one of them helps raise money in support for the American Cancer Society's campaign to bring awareness and ultimately a cure for cancer. Prizes will be announced at the awards luncheon for the golf tournament on August 1st.

If you would like to participate in either or both the golf tournament and the silent auction, please click on the hyperlink shown above.

After Mayfest

On Main Street in North Myrtle Beach thousands of area locals mingled with visitors to take in all the sights and sounds of Mayfest 2009 on Saturday, May 9th. NorthMyrtleBeachOnline.com described the event as a cross between a festival bazaar and a summer lawn party with its incredible people, caring community spirit, and small town feeling that permeated everything.

Whether guests wandered around the classic cars, the vendors' tents, the children's play area, or sound stage where the afternoon's entertainment occurred, they felt part of the action. Even though some might have attended for their very first time, everyone settled right into the cozy, comfortable and welcoming mood surrounding Mayfest.

Starting at 10 am and lasting well past 6 pm, this event had everything - especially the "big draw" of the free live concert that started at 1 pm. It featured "The Executives and Chairman of the Board," "Mother's Finest" and "The Legends of Surf Music" featuring Al Jardine and David Marks, both original members of "The Beach Boys." It was "byoc" (bring your own chair), but the sun's rays and rhythm of the music were all free.

Attendance numbers appeared to be as large as last year, especially around the bandstand. North Myrtle Beach Councilman, Bob Cavanaugh said he heard many nice comments as he strolled around the event, and with its free attendance, many people found it to be a welcome part of 2009.

Guest Comments

Our family stayed at Seaside in North Myrtle Beach, and we really did enjoy our stay there. My granddaughter's favorite thing was the lazy river, and I enjoyed it, too. Flo was the sweetest person that I have seen at any motel or condo. We all liked her very much. I'm looking forward to coming back real soon.

This resort was the greatest one we've ever stayed in. Would recommend it to the President. Awesome view of the ocean, nice exercise room and pools. Two hot tubs and lazy river. Direct access to the beach. The staff was courteous and very helpful. The suite was very clean. Had everything you needed for a weeks stay, microwave, stove, washer/dryer, etc. Can't wait to go back.

[This year] we wanted higher-end accommodations such as [at] Seaside with a bedroom and bathroom for each golfer. Last year, at Seaside we rented two units of three bedroom condos for the six of us that went on our annual golf trip. I must mention Lauren whom I first met at Seaside - an incredible asset to your organization. She is very pleasant, organized, and a real treat to deal with. You should be proud to have Lauren.
