The holiday season around the Grand Strand saw an average gallon of regular unleaded gasoline rise 87 cents higher than it was priced at this time last year, according to AAA. This same organization estimates that traveling Carolinians will log 870 miles roundtrip during the holiday and spend an average of $934 per household for everything from fuel to gifts to accommodations to entertainment. The national average for this same expenditure is $1,009.
