New Year's Celebrations Worldwide
The French call New Year's Eve la Saint-Sylvestre and the day as Jour des Étrennes. High spirits and joyous parties light up the night's sky in one of the oldest festivals around. France knows how to "party," so bidding the old year out and the new one in comes with ease and fun. There, the event ends on January 6 with the ceremonial cutting of a special type of festive cake called la galette des rois.
