2010 will bring the Grand Strand a step closer to being included in the global neighborhood. US Airways starts its daily, nonstop service between Rome and the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport (CLT) in May. Already, this airline offers a nonstop to other European cities from Charlotte, and in December US Airways begins service between South Americas Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, too. Drive time from Charlotte to the Grand Strand is 3 1/2 hours.
